10 days

I haven't had any fish, pork, chicken, or beef for ten days. This was my Lenten sacrifice. I have found some pretty good alternatives when dining out and most of my friends haven't even noticed. I have also read the Lent Devotion Booklet with two of my work friends every day.

My family is really into watching the Olympics this year. Claire made a little book today with pictures of the events. She stapled the pages together and proudly showed the creation off. Delaney and Claire both are begging to stay up late to watch the big events that seem to happen past their bed time.

Lenten Season

I have long embraced Mardi Gras, which is rather odd since I don't really "do" lent. I wasn't raised with that tradition. My current church does usually have an Ash Wednesday service and has Lenten Devotional Guide. I have always thought it to be rather odd, since it is not "Baptist" to me.

This year I am actively participating in Lent. I have chosen to give up something that is a true sacrifice to me. I have also been reading the Devotional Book with a few other teachers at work. I have stayed true of my goals so far. I am trying hard to make it these 40 days.

In preparing for the event

Much like a true athletic fan on Opening Day, I am preparing myself for the event. I have donned the proper wear. I am listening to the correct music. I am envisioning the greatness of the upcoming season. I am ready.

Concert Tickets go on sale today. Here I come Jimmy!

JB concert dates have been announced for Nashville, Atlanta, and St Louis. I'd love to go to all three, especially St. Louis. Looks like we will be in Nashville for the First of May. TIckets go on sale Saturday.

I live in a wonderful community. While driving to the beach a few days ago, Josh and I were talking about places we'd like to live. I can't really think of any place. I ended up saying that I never would have dreamed of Huntsville or Madison, AL--yet now I can't imagine anywhere else as wonderful.

My community has been shaken in recent days. There have been two horrible crime scenes. One at a middle school in my town and another at a University. I do not take the seriousness of these crimes lightly. I understand and am saddened by the tragedy of lost lives.

The fact remains that I live in a wonderful community.

Simple Life

I just finished reading an article about a writer who left her job as a professor to work at a grocery co op. She is much happier now. I understand this completely. After teaching in Missouri I worked at Fashion Bug. I loved Fashion Bug. At the end of the day, there was no stress or worry about what had happened that day selling clothes and accessories. I had no take home work of lesson plans or grading.

A few months later, I moved to Alabama. I noticed Bath and Body Works was hiring, so I applied. I was thrilled to work there. I loved the people, both co workers and customers. I kept working through a pregnancy and then worked a night or two a week for several years. I seemed ironic that most of my co workers were college students and I had already graduated from college.

Now I am a preschool teacher. My girls are in school full time, I could go back teaching full time. I don't really want to. I love my job. There can be very little respect from the masses to what I do. I don't make a lot of money. In the end, I know I love my students and their families. This is what is important to me. Although sometimes my ego wishes for more respect or acknowledgment, this life suits me.

I dream of living somewhere where I can walk to shops, restaurants, friends' homes. I also dream of living close enough to friends or centrally located in town that they would just stop by for a few minutes.

I have made croutons with leftover bakery bread for years. Today I made some with half a loaf of my homemade bread. I cube the bread, put the bread on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper generously. Bake at 350 degrees until they are toasted and browned, shaking the pan every now and then.

Results are crunchy, salty, peppery, deliciousness.

Choosing who to marry is a big deal. It can direct the course of the rest of your life. I managed to get really lucky. I can't imagine or dream of a better husband. I have it made. I realize this more and more everyday.
